Interesting, that’s what I kept telling myself when thinking about what my first post on this site should be. I could write about all sorts of “interesting” things after all, such as my experiences working with many big name musicians and comedians, or I could delve into the wild world of event planning and management. And while all of that would make for some interesting posts they wouldn’t really do much to set the stage for what I want this blog to be primarily about….GAMES! I started this site after-all as a way to share my thoughts, wisdom and seemingly random musings about games, the industry itself and major industry events. That’s not to say I won’t occasionally talk about my twelve years of experiences in the event and entertainment industry in the future but for this post I want to stay true to the sites primary intent.
Like many, my love for games started as a child when I received a Sega Genesis and Sonic the Hedgehog for Christmas. At the time that was the most glorious day of my life. To this day I still have the iconic SEGA intro permanently seared into my echoic memory, so much so that even in 2020 when I see that logo come across the screen I hear that sound-byte. I honestly don’t even know if they ever changed it because I almost certainly tune it out if it did. That spiky hair blue hedgehog defined my youth as I jetted across the maps at increasingly blistering speeds until I was kicked out of the house so I would be physically active. Not that it mattered in the backyard and on the playground I would run around pretending to be Sonic, always looking for ways to move faster than before. Looking back that hedgehog was probably why later in life I participated in Track and Field all the way through college as I had a need to emulate my favorite video game mascot.
Video games have also been a mechanism for exercising my incredibly overactive imagination and natural creativity. Much like books, games gave me a way to visit different worlds and become different people all from the comfort of my couch. This was very much an appreciated aspect since a grown man pretending to be someone else is generally frowned upon…unless of course you are a professional wrestler or Nicholas Cage.
I could go on and on about my love for video games but let’s be honest, if I did that most of the comments I would receive about the post would be something along the lines of “TLDR.” With that said my greatest hope with this site is to provide insight into my seemingly random thoughts on gaming, provide knowledge on the events and entertainment industry side as it relates to gaming, a hint of nostalgia and hopefully a few laughs or at the very least a chuckle from time to time.
If you are still reading then do me a favor and drop a comment below or send me a message. Whether it’s about improvements for the site, my writing style or even the story about the first game you ever received or played, I would love to hear about it as I continue to develop the site and hopefully the community. Thank you for taking time to visit and remember to just press play.
